Navarasa is Netflix project where the nine short films are combined and showcases the nine different emotions such as Love, Compassion, Anger, Courage, Disgust, Fear, Laughter, Peace and Wonder. We also saw that in the trailer that all the clips in the official trailer cover from all the nine short films. The list of Nine Director who worked in the project Gautam Vasudev Menon, Priyadarshan, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthik Subbaraj, Sarjun, Vasanth, Karthick Naren, Rathindran Prasad and Arvind Swami.
I’m telling you my favourite’s story from the anthology web series in a particular order. These are my pics so you can decide whether to watch it or not in Netflix:-
Number 1 will be Immai: Emotion of Fear directed by Rathindran R. Prasad starring Siddharth, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Pavel Navageethan, Rajesh Balachandran and Ammu Abhirami. The story focuses on a turn of events that takes place when on what comes across in a routine visit an individual arrive at someone house. Look at a film that skilfully present rather than basic situation. It explores more of different situation like peeling an onion which has kept you giving you more and more. The film through the conversation of two people explore the context, history, origin, morals and especially the situation that many face when confronted that worst fear. The film hauntingly progresses and bringing you the chills down on your spine.
Number 2 will be Project Agni that explores the emotion of wonder directed by Karthick Naren, starring Arvind Swami, Prasanna, Sai Siddharth and Poorna. This film focuses on an individual that is obsessed and fixated on radical theory about human consciousness. The idea, potential and risk he shares with his friend in his one night. The film tries to light on concept on ancient civilization, the illusion that is free will, the theory of world being a computer simulation, the concept of bear existing two worlds and power that exists in having the ability to tap into what is already predestined.
Number 3 will be Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru: Emotion of Love directed by Gautham Vasudev starring Suriya, Prayaga and Martin. This film is very light hearted, brizzy and fun film from the anthology. This film also has longest time run than the other films because of this story really took into a deep dive into the music that help you get insight of the characters. It explores two character artists that attract towards each other and it is simplistic in form.
Number 4 Goes to a story Edhiri: Compassion directed by Bejoy Nambiar starring Vijay Sethupathi, Revathi, Prakash Raja and Ashok Selvan. This film focuses on a man that unleashes years of Penta pray on an individual having wrong close one in the past. The Aftermath including regret, resentment and journey to seek for a empathy. The two path collide and both dealing with the unfortunate event. The background score and music by Govind Vasanth will really hooks you in.
Number 5 goes to the Roudhram: Anger directed by Arvind Swamy starring with Riythvika, Sree Raam, Abhinayashree, Ramesh Thilak and Geetha Kailasam. The story focuses on a boy who is detained for his physical assault. This event leads to an action and its repercussion face by the family immediately and long run. The technical aspects are good like music by A.R. Rehman, theme capture the quote of this film and anger and colourize region.
Number 6 goes to Summer of 92: Laughter directed by Priyadarshan starring Yogi Babu, Nedumudi Venu and Remya Nambeesan. This story is inspired from the former MP and Indian Film Actor Vareed Thekkethala. There is scene where he was invited to a school to talk about his several experiences. The story is about to transport you into the 90’s and probably reminisce about simpler time. The movie in the initial stage is much hilarious that not what you had expected it.
Number 7 goes to Payasam: Emotion of Disgust directed by Vasanth starring Rohini, Delhi Ganesh and Aditi Balan. This story focuses on individual who envious of his nephew success and how the insecurity and resentment of this individual manifest in the nephew daughter wedding. The film dragged you into his world because of beautiful performance by Delhi Ganesh. The Beautiful scenes shared by his wife, petty and hilarious climax will lead you to the world.
Number 8 goes to Shanthih: Peace directed by Karthik Subbaraj starring the Bobby Simha, Master Tharun, Gautham Menon and Sananth. The story focuses on Civil War for Ilem taking place specifically a group that fortify bunker in the front line. The group are looking for a boy’s family member and one soldier connect this, creating a parallel with his own life and make sure that little boy reunited with loved ones. The film showcases the scenario of psychological state of men and children at war.
Number 9 will be the Thunintha Pin: Courage directed by Sarjun KM which starring Atharvaa, Anjali and Kishore. This story focuses on new recruit that has been put in a situation of combat with Naxals in deep Jungle who is just get out of his training. The task is transporting a willy captor to a local police. The conversation take place in the process that explores motivation, reasons and personal hurdles that both individual endure while contrasting combat with one another. The director of photography Sudharshan Srinivasan especially the way his capture the back and forth of firing between officials and Naxals group in the initial stages.
The Netflix original Tamil anthology web series is released on 6 August 2021 in Netflix streaming platform. Navarasa is a collection of nine stories with nine emotions and the emotions we face in good and bad moments of life stay with us forever. Some Emotions are likely to daily part of life and change course of action of our lives. Creator of Navarasa Mani Ratnam spoke about that most times emotion play his role, but one who control the mind and soul may won it.
